Where is the best place to fish in the American Northwest territory? Like almost everything else, the answer depends on what you are trying to fish for. However, let’s focus on a really fun fish to catch-the Steelhead.

If you want to go fish for Steelhead, Oregon is probably the place that you want to focus on. In the summer there are several rivers that have excellent “Steelhead runs.” The Wilson River is great place to go fishing because it is so close to Portland it makes getting to the river much more convenient. You are allowed to fish for steelhead with clipped fins all year round as long as you stay South of the fork. The Wilson river has excellent runs and by May the river generally is spread pretty evenly throughout the river with steelhead.

Another excellent river is the Siletz River. This river is located next to the City of Lincoln. The best fishing for steelhead occurs towards the top of the river from the beginning of May to the end of July. It also does pretty well in fall months. This river allows you to take home any steelhead with a clipped fin all year round. This river is especially exciting because it is the only river with a wild run for steelhead that are migrating back to the Coast Range Mountains.

These are just a couple excellent rivers for steelhead. There are obviously many great fishing streams throughout Oregon that you can fish. Just remember, that if you are fishing for steelhead, Oregon is going to be your best bet for success.
